Children

The mission and vision of Saint John's Children's Ministry is to provide opportunities for children to follow Jesus in order to help parents build lifelong disciples by joyfully sharing God’s love and His Word with His children.

September Children's Ministry

Sunday, August 28 we celebrated Rally Day where we all came back from our summer vacations, moved up to the new grade levels in the Sunday School and Bible classes and got all excited about the new year of study in God’s Word. Last year’s sixth graders “jumped” from Children’s Ministry into the world of Youth Ministry. Songs, Bible story and special treats were enjoyed while registrations were filled out and pictures were taken.

August Children's Ministry

One of the most valuable and important programs in Children’s Ministry is the Sunday School. That is where the children are fed the very words of God and are given opportunities to praise, pray, learn, worship, witness, give and grow. By helping parents nurture their children’s faith in God, the children will develop a personal relationship with Jesus and become lifelong disciples.

July Children's Ministry

July is my favorite month of the year. The middle of the summer brings picnics and popsicles, seashells and swimming and visits of family and friends. (My youngest son would add fishing and fireworks! I am sure your children could also add to the list.) My prayer is that you and your family enjoy this wonderful month with all it has to offer. How wonderful it is that we can also enjoy worship and faith growth together throughout the year, including summertime!

Do You?

Do you talk to your children/grandchildren about God?
Talk to them.

Do you pray together as a family?
Do it.

Do your children/grandchildren believe they will go to heaven someday?
Ask them.

It’s time to talk, time to share
and time to grow in the Lord … before it’s too late.

The time is now.

May Children's Ministry Newsletter Article

Alleluia! Jesus lives. And, through our baptism, He lives in each of us also. What a great privilege it was to celebrate this new life that we have in Christ at the New Life Festival just one month ago. So many gave their time and talents to this awesome out-reach event—there were over seventy volunteers. Wow! This is one way Saint John’s shares the love of Jesus with friends, family and special guests.

Next month we will have the opportunity to again share that Good News at our Friends and Family Night Vacation Bible School. “High Seas Expedition - Exploring the Mighty Love of God” will be held June 21–25. Supper will begin at 5:15 pm and the opening will begin at 6:00 pm. Keep building a relationship with those around you so that they will be open to your invitation to come along with you to VBS! If you have children, think about the friends they could invite. And bring the whole family! Most of all, pray that the Holy Spirit works through His people at Saint John’s, that they be given words to tell others about Jesus. Pray that the Holy Spirit give you courage to be strong in your faith and share the love of Jesus to others. Pray that the Holy Spirit work through those you invite so that they can come to and grow in faith. May God bless us all in our walk with Him and with His peace and joy!

The month of April brought a special unit on prayer to the Sunday School. The Kids In Prayer (KIP) Club began as a way to teach children more about prayer. Special little prayer pins were given to the children as they grew in their knowledge and understanding of prayer. How wonderful that we can go to our heavenly Father at anytime and anywhere. He loves to hear from His dear children and wants them to come to Him. Remember that old saying: “The family that prays together, stays together!” May you be blessed as you pray together as a family.

Summer Sunday School begins June 6. Because families travel on vacations over the summer months, our attendance becomes a little slimmer. Therefore, we combine some of the classes so that the children still have other children to be together with as they learn about and praise their Savior. The Parents, twos and young threes will not be meeting in the summer. Instead, the Tender Care Nursery will be available at that time. Preschool through second grade will combine and third grade through sixth grade will combine. The theme will be “Even the Wind and Waves Obey Him.” The children will see how God uses His creation for His purpose. There will be snacks, games and singing along with this summer’s Bible curriculum by Concordia Publishing House. If your children have friends or family visiting, be sure to bring them along too!

On Rally Day, Sunday, August 29, all the children will “jump” up to their next class level.

As this school year draws to a close, be thinking about how you can use the extra summer time your child has to be in God’s Word. Children’s Bible story books are great summer reading! I encourage you to share in these awesome adventures together!

April Children's Ministry

Special thanks to those parents who brought their children to sing in the Palm Sunday worship services and also Good Friday. It is such a blessing when the children enrich our worship with their praise. The Interpretative Liturgical Dancers once again danced their praise to “stir our souls” on Easter Sunday. We thank the parents of these girls for their support and dedication to this ministry also.
